Astrology Online Course Outline
Module 1: Introduction
The study of the connection between celestial activity and happenings on Earth is known as astrology. Professional astrologers are those who use astrology to help others. We will go through the history of astrology in this subject, including how it began in the 4th millennium BCE and how it has changed over time. We will also go through the five most prevalent astrological schools of thought and their history and current relevance.
Definition of Astrology
It is usually assumed that astronomical and astrological understandings were formed before forming the alphabet, dating back to Mesopotamia in the 2nd millennium BCE. Astrology is sometimes referred to as the "language of the stars" by many astrologers.
The History of Astrology
Today, astrology comes in various forms, and practically every culture has its take on it. However, astrology is said to originate from the 2nd millennium BCE in Mesopotamia. There is literature from the era in Babylonian and Assyrian languages. However, it is thought that residents of Mesopotamia had a basic grasp of heavenly objects in the 4th millennium BCE, long before writing was invented.
The Five Types of Astrology
Astrology has nearly a hundred different branches. Many are no longer valid, including Babylonian, Celtic, Egyptian, and Hellenistic astrology, to name a few. Their influence on modern astrology, on the other hand, cannot be disregarded.
Western Astrology
The majority of Western countries use this method (Europe and the Americas). The Western school relies on Hellenistic and Babylonian traditions and is based on Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, written in the second century.
Vedic Astrology
Hindu or Indian astrology is another name for Vedic astrology. It is known as Jyotish in Sanskrit. It has its origins in Hellenistic astrological tradition and is widely used in the Indian subcontinent. Yoga, for example, is strongly linked to Vedic astrology and other disciplines that evolved in the region. Jyotish is still widely practised in India today, with many people considering it a science and numerous colleges offering degrees in this discipline of astrology.
Sidereal Astrology
The sidereal system, as previously stated, is based on existing constellation placements. Ancient peoples valued this approach over theoretical placement based on Earth's seasons because they thought it represented the genuine link between people and their surroundings.
Chinese Astrology
While Chinese astrology shares parallel with the other astrological systems covered, it is the most different. In contrast to Western or Vedic astrology, the Chinese zodiac is based on years rather than months, and the animals assigned to each year do not correspond to corresponding constellations.
Kabbalistic Astrology
This technique, also known as mazal astrology, evolved from Jewish mysticism. Kabbalists look for mystical meanings in old holy Jewish scriptures. This astrological method is based on a person's birth chart and uses kabbalistic traditions to explain the relationships between humans and the universe.
Module 2: Astrological Charts
We will go through everything regarding astrological charts in Module 2. We will talk about birth charts and their importance in our lives in this section of the course. You will learn to understand the chart's components, such as the zodiac signs, houses, angles, and more.
Birth Charts
Based on the time and place of your birth, your birth chart reveals your personality traits and life path. A birth chart depicts the positions of the planets in respect to the zodiac signs—and each other—at the time and location of a person's birth.
Components of the Wheel
Remember that charts have 360 degrees since their circles. The majority of charts do not show each degree, although some do. The signs of the zodiac are all represented by degrees. Each of the 12 zodiac signs has a 30-degree angle on the wheel.
Signs
The names, symbols, and order in which the 12 zodiac signs appear on the calendar are all based on the constellations with which they are related. The 12 zodiac signs are the most well-known across the world. Even sceptics are aware of them and are typically aware of their Sun sign based on the month they were born. On the chart, each of the 12 signs is given 30 degrees of longitude. The indications indicate where the planets are moving concerning the Earth. When we say "Mercury in Scorpio," we refer to the planet Mercury's transit through the sign of Scorpio.
Houses
The houses on the chart each represent a different area of the sky and represent 12 life divisions in which our life experiences occur. The dwellings are numbered counterclockwise from the east.
House Cusps and Angles
Cusps are the lines that split the dwellings into 12 sections, as previously stated. The house cusps in the Western tradition are 180 degrees longitude away from their opposite house, the sixth house following the sun (1st opposes 7th, second opposes 8th, third opposes 9th, and so on).
The cusp of the first house: The Ascendant
You have probably heard the term "rising sign" before (The Ascendant). Along with the Sun and Moon signs, it is one of the "big three" signs in modern Western astrology.
The cusp of the fourth house: IC (imum coeli)
The Latin word for this cusp is imum coeli (or IC for short). This approximately translates as "lowest of the skies." It is also known as the nadir, and it is the northernmost point on the chart. IC is linked to your family, lineage, and relationship with your parents, among other things.
The cusp of the seventh house: The Descendant
The "sunset" cusp is named after the descendant (DC), placed opposite the ascendant. This is because it depicts the Sun's waning power as the daily cycle progresses.
The cusp of the tenth house: The Midheaven (medium coeli)
The tenth house cusp is related to expressing yourself and fulfilling your skills in life. The Latin phrase for the Midheaven, medium coeli (MC for short, also known as the zenith), translates to "middle of the sky."
The Purpose of Astrological Charts
You may begin to examine and understand the meanings of the astrological chart once you have become familiar with all parts of it. By examining the planets' positions concerning the signs and houses, you may utilize the charts to discover more about yourself or others.
Module 3: Houses
To summarize, the zodiac is divided into 12 parts, or houses. A distinct astrological sign rules each house. The zodiac begins with the first house and moves clockwise. The 12 homes each have their unique set of characteristics. These characteristics begin with oneself and spread outward into one's function in society and beyond. We will talk about how houses are utilized in astrology and why they are significant in this section.
Meaning of the 12 Houses
The planets were aligned with certain houses and signs at the precise moment of each person's birth. When an astrologer analyses a birth chart, they consider the meaning of each planet, as well as the house and sign in which it is placed. They utilize this information to map out any talents or challenges someone may have in life.
The First House
Aries rules this house, which is at the start of the zodiac. It encompasses all of your life's "firsts." First impressions, leadership experiences, new beginnings, initiatives, and fresh begins are all examples of these. It also portrays essential parts of your life like your looks, temperament, ego, and overall view on life.
The Second House
This house is in charge of all aspects of your immediate physical and material surroundings, including taste, touch, sight, and smell. The second house, which Taurus rules, is connected to money and self-esteem. It is also known as the House of Possessions because it governs your essential beliefs.
The Third House
Gemini rules the third house, which governs all types of communication. This involves using gadgets like your computer, smartphone, or applications to chat, think, and communicate. It is inextricably tied to contemporary technology's ability to facilitate communication.
The Fourth House
Cancer rules the fourth house, which is at the bottom of the zodiac wheel. It governs your house, your privacy, your security, your parents, your children, and your ability to nurture others. Our relationship with mother figures and their view on domesticity is shown by the natal planets of the fourth house. We are urged to invest in our houses by establishing more private and nurturing areas that will help us to feel safe and cherished whenever the planets are in the fourth house.
The Fifth House
Drama, self-expression, colour, creativity, attention, fun, play, and romance are all controlled by Leo in the fifth house. It is a lighthearted zone connected to your underlying artistic expression.
The Sixth House
The sixth house of the zodiac, which represents health and services, is ruled by Virgo. It is in charge of planning, scheduling, diets, routines, and physical activity. It has to do with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, being helpful, and aiding others.
The Seventh House
The first of the interpersonal homes is the eighth house. It is ruled by Libra and is concerned with relationships, both professional and personal. This house also rules all topics concerning relationships, such as marriage, commercial dealings, and contracts.
Eighth House
Scorpio rules the eighth house, representing birth, death, mystery, metamorphosis, sex, fused energies, and a more significant link. Other people's money and property, such as inheritances, investments, and real estate, are ruled by this house. The eighth house rules our animalistic tendencies. Those with planets in the eighth house as natal planets are often drawn to occult or supernatural subjects.
The Ninth House
Sagittarius rules the ninth house, which deals with foreign and long-distance travel, the higher mind, growth, and inspiration. Higher education, chance, danger, adventure, gambling, religion, philosophy, morality, and ethics are also covered.
The Tenth House
Capricorn rules the tenth house, which is located at the very top of the chart. Corporations, buildings, public images, renown, successes, prizes, regulations, and discipline, are all governed by this house. It also has control over dads, fatherhood, and authority. The midheaven is also known as the tenth house's boundary or cusp. It aids astrologers in predicting your future career path.
The Eleventh House
Aquarius is the sign that rules the eleventh house. Friendships, society, groups, teams, social justice, revolt, networking, and electronic media are all ruled by this house. Eccentricity, uniqueness, surprises, inventiveness, and all things futuristic are likewise ruled by it.
The Twelfth House
The twelfth house, which governs endings, is ruled by Pisces. The house includes closing up loose ends, completing a project, old age, surrender, and the afterlife. Separation from society is also linked to institutions, prisons, hospitals, and covert opponents and hidden goals.
Module 4: The Planets
Astrology has its language, and we must listen carefully and willingly. It has the potential to make a massive difference in our lives by assisting us in gaining a better knowledge of ourselves. Understanding the numerous planets and stars in our sky and how they impact us is an essential component of astrology. Ten major planets have an impact on and interact with our human characteristics.
Personal Planets
Our planets impact our human needs and desire for satisfaction, life experience, and progress. We all have the exact fundamental human requirements that we cannot live without, regardless of where we are on the globe.
The Outer Planets
The outer planets contribute to our evolution and the yearning to seek connection, growth, and oneness with the Universe beyond our particular human experience.
Module 5: The Zodiac Signs
Twelve zodiac signs correspond to the months of the year, as you may be aware. Each of us is born under a different zodiac sign, which characterises our personalities, life trajectories, and even the daily hardships that shape our lives. The positions and paths of the planets, sun, and stars, which travel across areas of the sky known as zodiacs, explain each zodiac sign. Keep in mind that your zodiac sign is decided by your birth date and exact time.
The Western Zodiac Signs
Regardless of one's zodiac sign, they may be affected by the sign's energy associated with each month. Everyone will feel the energy of Aries between March 21st and April 19th, for example.
Aries
The fire sign is associated with ambition, courage, bravery, and determination, as well as a sense of humour. Unfortunately, this sign exhibits negative personality qualities, including selfishness, boastfulness, and impatience at times.
Taurus
Taurus is the zodiac sign that occurs between April 20th and May 20th. Materialism and worldly pleasures are known to be related to this zodiac sign.
Gemini
People born under this sign have charm, optimism, and positivism and the ability to be gregarious and amusing. They also have a predisposition for moodiness, inconsistency, and restlessness on the other hand.
Cancer
Characteristics of people born under this sign include charm, optimism, positivism, and the ability to be gregarious and amusing. On the other hand, they have a proclivity for moodiness, inconsistency, and restlessness.
Leo
Between the 23rd and the 22nd of July, Leo is present. Hospitality, openness, leadership, compassion, and generosity are all attributes associated with this sign.
Virgo
This zodiac sign is associated with an organized and regulated demeanour. They are hardworking, self-sufficient, and like analyzing situations. They can also be critical and have periods of perfectionism and coldness.
Libra
This zodiac sign's inhabitants are charming, eloquent, and captivating. They have an aesthetic side to them and appreciate fairness and balance. This sign is also associated with aloofness, indecisiveness, and shallowness in personality.
Scorpio
Scorpio is a zodiac sign that exists between October 24th and November 22nd. This is a passionate, forceful, and sometimes intense sign.
Sagittarius
This zodiac sign is noted for being astute, educated, aggressive, loving, and caring. Unfortunately, they might also exhibit recklessness and impulsiveness as personality characteristics.
Capricorn
Between December 22nd and January 19th, Capricorn is the zodiac sign of Capricorn. This symbol indicates business and hard labour in general.
Aquarius
People born under this sign are imaginative, amusing, self-reliant, and progressive. Unfortunately, this sign has a reputation for being unrealistic, chilly, and rebellious.
Pisces
This zodiac sign is noted for its passionate, creative, loving, and emotional qualities. They might be oblivious, overly sensitive, and emotional at times.
The Chinese Zodiac Signs
As previously stated, rather than a sign, each Chinese zodiac sign is represented by an animal, and the animals rotate every 12 years. Every year, a new animal is born, and every person born during that year is assigned to that zodiac sign.
Module 6: Modes
The three modes of astrological signs will be discussed in this session. Keep in mind that each of the 12 zodiac signs has its own set of characteristics, qualities, and energy. The signs are classified into three modes based on these characteristics: cardinal, fixed, and changeable. Each mode is connected with four zodiac signs.
Modalities
The three modes of astrological signs will be discussed in this session. Keep in mind that each of the 12 zodiac signs has its own set of characteristics, qualities, and energy. The signs are classified into three modes based on these characteristics: cardinal, fixed, and changeable. Each mode is connected with four zodiac signs.
Cardinal Zodiac Signs
The term "cardinal" denotes something essential and significant. Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are all Cardinal signs. Cardinal signs are known as the zodiac's initiators, as they signify the start of new seasons. People born under the cardinal signs have much energy and are often coming up with fresh ideas. They usually bring new enthusiasm to the table, which frequently aids in the start-up of enterprises.
Fixed Zodiac Signs
Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are fixed signs. They are said to be the zodiac's 'doers.' Fixed signs give birth to thoughts portrayed by cardinal signs. They are known for being focused, well-organized, and hardworking. In difficult situations, they can be counted on to persevere with tenacity and do whatever it takes to achieve the job at hand.
Mutable Zodiac Signs
Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are all mutable signs. Cardinals are recognized for initiating projects, fixed follow-up signs, and changeable signs for finishing them. They are also recognized for being adaptable and changeable. When things do not go as planned, changeable signs might help you deal with the situation.
Module 7: Interpretation of Horoscopes
Since astrology was originally performed millennia ago, the interpretation of horoscopes has experienced numerous changes. Between the fifth and first century BCE, the Middle East and Greece developed the methodologies we use today.
Review: What is a Horoscope?
A horoscope is an astrological chart or diagram that represents the sun, moon, planets, astrological aspects, and precise angles at the time of an event. It is derived from the Latin words horo, which means "hour," and scope, which means "view." When these terms are combined, they can be interpreted as "marker(s) of the hour." Astrologers make forecasts about future occurrences based on these criteria.
The Role of Time in Interpretation
The planetary positions in either the sidereal or tropical Zodiac are used to create a horoscope. These two systems have many differences. The calculations are based on the date, location, and time of birth of the individual. Planets and houses are also taken into account in horoscopes.
The Issue of Precession
The scientists first noticed the Sun passing around the Zodiac signs in a year, spending roughly a month in each. As a result, they determined that each constellation spans 30 degrees of the ecliptic. Because of phenomena known as precession, the constellations we view today have shifted, and there is speculation that we may have different Zodiac signs as a result. The tropical zodiac system is widely used in Western astrology.
Personal Interpretations
A birth chart, also known as a natal chart, is a circular map that depicts the position of the planets on a particular day, time, and location of a person's birth. That is why, like a fingerprint, it is distinct and memorable. Reading these graphs is a difficult task. Learning to interpret one involves time, effort, insight, and knowledge.
Historical Charts
Our civilisation predates natal charts. A study team just discovered the world's oldest horoscope board, which dates back over 2,000 years. The Zodiac signs were inscribed on the board, unearthed in a cave overlooking the Adriatic Sea in Croatia.
Module 8: Applications of Astrology
This lesson will teach you about some practical astrological applications and how to use them in your daily life. In popular culture, astrology is generally associated with foretelling the future or determining compatibility between a person and their chosen mate.
Relationship Astrology
Astrology for partnerships aids people in understanding their relationships. This discipline of astrology is not just concerned with love relationships, contrary to popular belief. Instead, one may compare the energy of any two persons.
Electional Astrology
Electional astrology is concerned with choosing ('electing') the optimal moment to undertake anything significant, such as marrying, starting a business, purchasing or moving into a new home, or taking a vacation.
Horary Astrology
Horary astrologers are experts at addressing straightforward inquiries. They make a chart for the precise time and location when they receive and comprehend an inquiry from a potential client. Although the questions might be difficult, this area of astrology is best suited for yes or no inquiries or little facts about a scenario.
Mundane Astrology
Mundane astrology is concerned with worldly events such as political events and international relations, among other things. It is also one of the oldest branches of astrology, with the Babylonians primarily concerned with the status of their nations and rulers.
Financial Astrology
Financial (or economic) astrology is a branch of astrology that focuses on forecasting financial market developments. Financial astrology has been shunned in Wall Street and other trading circles for many years.
Medical Astrology
Medical astrology is one of the earliest areas of astrology, much like mundane astrology. Medical astrology aims to link one's health to the motions of the planets. Body parts, ailments, and remedies are linked to distinct zodiac signs and planets in medical astrology. Taurus, for example, rules the neck and throat.
Psychological Astrology
Astro-psychology, or Psychological Astrology, combines the two sciences that help individuals better understand themselves. A person's birth chart may reveal a lot about their personality and their physical inclinations. Some professional psychologists employ Astro-psychology to help their clients achieve their goals.
Career Astrology
Career astrology (also known as vocational astrology) attempts to predict people's best career options based on their natal charts. It would help if you had a clear picture of what you want to gain from your work before visiting an astrologer specialising in career guidance.
Module 9: Aspects
Aspects are geometrical arrangements generated between two or more planets or points in the chart in astrology. These forms indicate a relationship and can reveal a lot about a person's personality. The angular forms in the chart can disclose just as much about a person's attributes and tendencies as any of the Zodiac wheel's primary planets or houses.
Defining Aspects
Aspects are fundamental because they show how the planets behave while they are transiting through various signs. They demonstrate how a person perceives the world and acts in their daily lives. There are five factors to consider. They are also known as Ptolemaic aspects, after Ptolemy, a Greek mathematician, geographer, and astronomer who utilized them.
Hard Aspect: Opposition
Because the planets' energies are unfitting and unsuited, the opposition is described as "hard" and demanding. Because the planets are opposites in this aspect, the combination is called polarity. When the chart has challenging aspects or angles, pressure, challenges, and struggle are on the way.
Hard Aspect: Square
The square is challenging because it represents a battle between the planets for power. This aspect frequently leads the planets' energies to clash, resulting in stress.
Easy Aspect: Trine
All that is simple, serene, and natural is related to the trine. The planets are in a position of mutual regard, which is a highly favourable aspect. Trine is seen as a kind, helpful, and upbeat character. In a chart, soft and hard elements are distinguished by the use of various colours. The "hard" elements are represented by red lines, while blue lines represent the "easy" aspects.
Relationship to the Planets
Every planet in astrology is said to have its distinct essence. A particular planet rules over several aspects of life. The way these planets influence us is determined by the Sun sign they are in at the moment. The way they affect humans is also linked to the connections these planets make with one another.
Degree ranges
In astrology, significant aspects can be divided equally into 360 degrees and are divisible by ten (except for the semi-sextile, which is a 30-degree aspect).
The Conjunction
This occurs when planets in the chart are within 0 degrees of each other (or close to it). Planets and points that create conjunctions are perfectly aligned, and their energies are unified. They collaborate, and the closer they reach a point of convergence, the more solidified their combined energies become.
Opposition
This occurs when planets in the chart are 180 degrees apart or opposing each other. When two planets are in opposition, they are on opposite sides of the axis.
Trine
When planets are lined at an angle of 120 degrees on the chart, it is called a trine. The planets are in their most favourable alignment. It is a moment when the planets are aligned to help each other.
Square
On the chart, this occurs when the planets are 90 degrees apart. This is a sign of difficulty since the planets are in opposition to each other. The square aspect, like its shape, features hard angles and sharp edges. The energy of the planets might cause conflict amongst them.
Sextile
This occurs when the planets are 60 degrees apart. This usually happens between the water and earth signs, as well as the air and fire signs. This is a simple and valuable feature. The sole disadvantage is a lack of activity; significant changes are unlikely to occur when a sextile is created.
Module 10: Nodes
When it comes to astrology, the north and south nodes of the moon are where we look for answers to a person's mission in life. Lunar nodes are another name for them. This section will go through the different sorts of nodes and how they connect to particular signals.
What Are Nodes?
Between the Sun and the Moon lie the nodes, which are mathematical positions. They always fall into two opposite signs on the Zodiac wheel. For example, if someone's north node is in Sagittarius, their south node will be in Gemini, the opposite sign.
The North Node
By astrological sign and house, the North Node signifies the spiritual and significant life lessons we are meant to gain in this lifetime. It points us in the direction of our karmic journey and destiny. The North Node contains all of the information and experience we have accumulated throughout our lives. It might be defined as mastery over one's existence.
The South Node
By astrological sign and house, the South Node denotes unfinished karma and loose ends from the past. With its assistance, all the unsolved lessons that have accumulated through time are disclosed. The South Node is about "unfinished business," but it also directs us to recognize and share our most acceptable abilities with the rest of the world.
Change
The South Node may be found 180 degrees across the chart from the North Node. The nodes change signs every one and a half years or every 18 months—fun fact: Because the nodes are retrograde by nature, they change signs by travelling backwards.
Relationship to the Sun and Moon
Eclipses happen when the new or full moons are close to the Lunar Nodes. Because the Sun, Moon, and Earth are so near together at the time, a shadow is cast. Eclipses can be anticipated in this way.
Recognition & Accreditation
Upon successful completion of this course and achieving a passing score for the assessment, you will be issued with an international continuing education credit (CEU) certificate.
This Certificate is applicable worldwide, which demonstrates your commitment to learning new skills. You can share the certificate with your friends, relatives, co-workers, and potential employers. Also, include it in your resume/CV, professional social media profiles and job applications.
